The Maths topics your child needs

The Maths paper draws on the Key Stage 2 curriculum, so the ground it covers is familiar from school. In practice that means arithmetic and place value, fractions and decimals, percentages, simple algebra, shape and space, measures and time, and reading information from tables and charts. Transfera has a set of questions for each of these, so your child can work on one area at a time instead of facing everything at once.

Build the method, not just the answer

Getting the right answer matters, but understanding how you got there is what holds up under time pressure. Every question comes with a short explanation of the method, so when your child slips up they can see exactly where and why. Over a few weeks that turns shaky topics into reliable marks.

Try a Maths question

A coat costs 80 pounds in a sale with 25 percent off. What is the new price?

A. 60 pounds   B. 55 pounds   C. 65 pounds   D. 20 pounds

Answer: 60 pounds. A quarter of 80 is 20, and 80 take away 20 leaves 60. Working out ten percent first, then scaling up, is often the quickest route for mental percentages.

What is the area of a rectangle that is 8 cm long and 3 cm wide?

A. 24 square cm   B. 22 square cm   C. 11 square cm   D. 16 square cm

Answer: 24 square cm. Area of a rectangle is length times width, so 8 multiplied by 3 gives 24. Remembering to write the units as square centimetres is an easy mark to pick up.

Practise a topic, then sit a full mock

Once the individual topics feel comfortable, your child can sit a full timed mock of 56 questions in 60 minutes that mixes Maths and English, just like the real paper. You will see a score and a topic breakdown afterwards, so you always know what to work on next.
